Turn

Rows: 1 – 25 sc in 2nd chain from hook and in each st to end. Ch 1 turn.

Neckline Edge:
With N hook, go back up to the first row you worked, and using an N hook, join with sl st to one edge. Sc in each st along the top (48 sc). Don’t finish off. (this will give the neckline a smaller shape than the bottom edge.)

Fold the project in half and crochet TOGETHER 8 sts of sc down front edge of capelet.
Finish off, weave in loose ends.

Rose embellishment:

1. With J hook, Ch 5, sl st in first ch st to form ring.
2. sc in ring, ch 4 (6 times)—You will have 6 loops
3. In each loop, sc, hdc, 2 dc, hdc, sc. – you will have 6 petals now.
4. Working BEHIND the petals you just made, around the BACK of the loops you made in row 2. Ch 6, sc around the back of the next loop. You will have 6 loops.
5. In each loop, sc, 2 hdc, 3dc, 2 hdc, sc—you now have 6 more petals behind the first row.
You can finish off at this point, or continue in the same manner to make larger roses.

Winter Mukuks

Supplies needed:

J crochet hook

Any WW yarn.. I prefer woolease: 1 skein

Any furry yarn to match: 1 skein

Large holed darning needle
Two ways for the sole:
You can use a pre-made leather sole, I get a moccasin kit and sew up the heel and use this. You can get leather soles for slippers on the internet

You can make one yourself by using leather or vinyl (pleather) Just trace an oval around your foot leaving 1-1/2 ” wider than your foot. Glue a shoe pad to the center, and evenly poke holes (using an awl, leather punch or a nail) around the vinyl at about ¼ inch apart around

Fake, or real fur cut to match the size of your sole.

Mukuk—Make 2

Foundation Row Sole—

Sewn . On sole - sew a blanket stitch with your darning needle and the WW yarn, using the punched holes as your guide for needle insertion.

Crocheted -- easier if you don’t want the furry lining AND if you have a really sharp crochet hook and a strong poking arm, you can sc in each hole around—you will need a steel hook, about size 5 for this so crochet LOOSLY if you choose this method.

I’ve done my beginning row both ways, and I find it easier to sew a blanket stitch around and crochet my sc row in the top of the blanket stitch.

Note—You will use the WW yarn unless otherwise indicated in the instructions below.

Sole—
Row 1 and 2: Sc in each stitch around, ch 1. Do Not turn. Finish off at the end of row two.

Instep—
Ch 9, turn

Row 2-13: In second ch from hook, sc in blo in next 8 sts. Ch 1 turn.
Row 14: on this row, you will evenly crochet 29 sc evenly around 3 sides of the instep.

Attach the instep to the top of the slipper’s sole with 29 sc evenly around. With Fuzzy yarn, crochet over the row you just crocheted. By crocheting around this row, your fuzzy yarn looks a lot furrier.

Cuff—
Around cuff edge, evenly crochet 26 to 28 sts of sc around opening.
Row 1: hdc in each stitch around. Chain 2, turn.
Row 2: back post, front post (bp/fp) hdc in each stitch around.
Row 3: with fuzzy yarn, hdc in each stitch around. Finish off.
Row 4: hdc in each stitch around, ch 2, turn.
Row 5 and 6: bp/fp hdc in each stitch around, ch 2 turn. Finish off at the end of row 6
Row 7: with fuzzy yarn, hdc in each st around. Finish off.

Simple Slippers

By Kathleen Watkins

(C) K. Finish off and weave in loose ends.

Finishing: Starting at heel, evenly crochet 22 sc around slipper opening, then crochet a second row.

Nots: for a more bootie like slipper, on the finishing round, crochet as many rows as you desire to work into bootie shape.

This pattern is easily adjustable:

For a longer slipper, simply make a longer starting chain– about ½ inch longer than the foot slippers are intended for.

For a wider slipper, simply make more rows– enough to go around the foot the slipper is intended for.

A New creation

Fabulously Fashionable Poncho

Approximately 15 ounces of 3 ply Boucle’ yarn. Watkins, 2005

Using an I hook and 3 ply yarn

CUFF

Row 1: Ch 13. Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in next 11 ch. (12 sc sts) ch 1, turn.

Row 2-28: Back loop single crochet (blsc) in next 12 sc. (12 blsc sts) ch 1 turn. At the end of row 28, finish off and weave in loose end.

INSTEP

Row1: Working along one side of cuff count in 9 rows. At the end of the 9th row, sc. Sc in the end of the next 9 rows, ch 1, turn (10 sc sts)

Rows 2-18: blsc in 10 sc. Ch 1, turn. At the end of row 18, fasten off and weave in ends.

SOLE

Attach yarn to bottom end of cuff

You now have a T shape of sc ribbing.. one is the cuff one is the instep. ( It helps to put the cuff around your ankle and the instep on your foot to get an idea of where you are in the crochet project at this point)

This next part is a bit confusing, but once you start, you will get the hang of it. You are, essentially putting the sides and the soles on the slipper by crocheting around 3 sides of your T, leaving the top of the T unworked.

In the next rows, you will be crocheting down right side cuff edge (drsc), down right side instep (drsi) along front toe instep (afte) up left side instep (ulsi) and up left side instep (ulsc).

Attach yarn to first stitch of slipper. Ch 1. Crochet, evenly spacing sts as follows: 10 sc drsc, 18 sc drsi, 8 sc ate, 18 sc ulsi, 10 sc ulsc. Ch 2, turn (64 sc sts)Ch 3, Turn (note, the turning chain will always count as your first hdc from this point on)

Rows 2-4: Half double crochet (hdc) in each st around cuff and instep, ch 2 turn (64 hdc sts), ch 3, turn.

Row 5: hdc into first 9 sts, make a 3 hdc tog decrease* over the next three sts, 14 hdc, then make two- 2 hdc tog decs*, 4 hdc, two- 2 hdc tog decs, 14 hdc, 3 hdc tog decrease over next three sts, 9 hdc. Ch 3, turn.

Row 6: hdc frist 24 sts, 3 hdc tog dec, hdc next 2 sts, 3 hdc tog dec, hdc next 24 sts. Ch 3, turn.

Row 7: hdc into first st, 2 hdc tog dec, hdc next 20 sts, two- 2 hdc tog decs, hdc next 20 sts, 2 hdc decrease, hdc in last sts. Ch 3, turn

After this row, finish off leaving a 20 inch length of yarn. Use this length to sew up bottom of sole and back of cuff. Weave in all loose ends.

**NOTE on stitches:
3 hdc tog dec: (3 half double crochet together decrease) use the next three stitches and draw them together by crocheting them into one stitch

two, 2 hdc tog decs: (two separate half double crochet together decreases) this means there are two decreases in a row consisting of two stitches drawn together by crocheting them into one stitch

Crochet Mary Jane Slippers

By Kathleen Watkins
(c) 2005 K. Place right sides of heel together and sew together heel with needle using 12 inch length.

STRAP– make 2

1: Ch 18, sc in 12th ch from hook. Continue to sc in next 11 sts. Ch 1 (note–this is where you will adjust the strap for different sized buttons.(see finishing note B)

2: Along opposite side of row just worked, sc in next 12 sc. 6 sc in to loop, 12 sc along original side to beginning of round. Its huge, about 100" x 100"

Another picture just to show it's huge size, here's the afghan with my two pooches on it.

My Dogs-- Moppett and Marigold

Garden Afghan

Here's a picture of a Garden/Rose afghan I made.
